Al-Kawthar (Golden Words of Allah Episode 58)

“Indeed, We have granted you, [O Muhammad], Al-Kawthar. So pray to your Lord and sacrifice [to Him alone]. Indeed, your enemy is the one cut off (Surah Al-Kawthar, 108:1-3)

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. All perfect praise is due to Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, the Lord of the Worlds. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah, and Muhammad (pbuh), is His slave and final Messenger.

Introduction
Among the countless favours bestowed upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), none is more magnificent than Al-Kawthar. In just three short verses, Allah reveals the abundance of His mercy and honours His Messenger with a gift that surpasses all imagination.

Al-Kawthar is both a chapter in the Qur’an and a river in Paradise, a symbol of pure generosity, endless reward, and ultimate triumph over the enemies of truth.

The Prophet (pbuh) explained: “Al-Kawthar is a river in Paradise, whiter than milk, sweeter than honey, with banks of gold and vessels like the stars.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 7050; Sahih Muslim, Hadith 400)

Its water is so pure and refreshing that whoever drinks from it will never thirst again. This river is the source of the Hawd (the Pond) where the Prophet (pbuh) will meet his Ummah on the Day of Judgment.

“My Hawd is as vast as the distance between San’a and Madinah. Its water is whiter than milk, its fragrance better than musk, and its drinking cups are like the stars in the sky.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim)

The chapter begins: “Indeed, We have granted you Al-Kawthar.” (Surah Al-Kawthar, 108:1)

The word Kawthar comes from the root meaning “abundance” and refers to the countless blessings Allah bestowed upon His beloved Messenger (pbuh) both in this world and the next.

In return, Allah commands: “So pray to your Lord and sacrifice [to Him alone].”(Surah Al-Kawthar, 108:2)

This is a reminder that gratitude for Allah’s favours must be shown through worship and devotion.

On the Day of Judgment, the Prophet (pbuh) will wait at the Pond of Al-Kawthar to quench the thirst of his Ummah. But he warned:

“Some people will be driven away from my Hawd. I will call out: ‘My followers!’ but it will be said: ‘You do not know what they innovated after you.’” (Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim)

This Hadith reminds us to cling to the Sunnah and avoid innovations so we may drink from Al-Kawthar and be united with our beloved Prophet (pbuh).

“Indeed, We have granted you, [O Muhammad], Al-Kawthar.”
