Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf over the weekend convened a massive prayer session in Kano, bringing together 4,444 Qur’anic reciters to seek divine intervention against escalating banditry in the state.

The governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, confirmed the development in a statement on Saturday, noting that the prayer was organised in response to recent attacks that have shaken communities in the northern senatorial district.

Kano has witnessed troubling incidents in recent weeks, including the abduction of 15 residents and the killing of a woman during a bandit attack.

Held at the Government House, the special session drew Islamic scholars, traditional rulers, Qur’anic reciters, and senior government officials, all united in supplication for peace and security.

Governor Yusuf also called on citizens to intensify personal prayers—especially during the late hours—seeking Allah’s protection and a permanent end to insecurity in Kano and across Nigeria.
